Bacon's Rebellion, the civil war that convulsed Virginia from 1675-1677, is ripe for reinterpretation, as the last good book devoted to it appeared in 1957. This book fundamentally reconsiders the rebellion, situating the action primarily in "Indian country" rather than in Virginia, and placing the uprising within Virginia in the broader context of the British Empire in North America and points beyond. Published by Oxford University Press in their "New Narratives in American History" series (2012), "Tales from a Revolution also constitutes an experiment in narrative, and is directed as much towards a trade audience and undergraduates as it is to scholars.
