Description
A bronze statue of John Warwick Daniel, a former Confederate major and an influential politcian from Lynchburg, depicts him seated next to a crutch with a scroll of papers in one hand. Known as the The Lame Lion of Lynchburg, Daniel was seriously wounded during the Civil War and had to use a crutch for the rest of his life. The statue, designed by Sir Moses Ezekiel, was erected in Lynchburg on Park Avenue between Floyd and Ninth streets. An inscription carved into the base of the statue reads: Foremost And Best Beloved Virginian Of His Time.
