Description
An albumen stereograph shows grave mounds and tombstones near the general hospital in City Point. This photograph was made by Mathew Brady, or one of his staff photographers, who recorded life at Union-controlled City Point in 1864 and 1865. A poem printed on the back of the stereograph reads: “On Fame’s eternal camping ground / Their silent tents are spread; / And Glory guards with solemn round, / This bivouac of the dead.”
