“A Share of Honour”: Virginia Women 1600-1945
VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS November 10, 1984-January 6, 1985 THE CHRYSLER MUSEUM February 8-March 17, 1985 ROANOKE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS April 18-June 6, 1985 An exhibition organized by the Virginia Women's Cultural History Project Artist Unknown, Ege-Galt Family. Oil on canvas, 34-3/8 x 41-1/4 in, Virginia, c. 1801-03. Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center, Williamsburg, Virginia. We developed this project to give voice to a story that had not been told. Although for over three hundred years women have helped shape Virginia's past and are helping shape Virginia's future, their contributions have been largely unrecognized. But the struggles, faith, courage, and accomplishments of generations of Virginia women tell an exciting story-a story we would like to share. "A Share of Honour": Virginia Women 1600-1945 offers not only another dimension to the past, but a new vision of Virginia's history. |
