Under the leadership of Emily Tapscott Clark, The Reviewer discovered new writers, like future Pulitzer Prize-winner Julia Peterkin, and also published established writers like Donald Davidson, Ellen Glasgow, Gertrude Stein, and Carl Van Vechten. Clark deliberately eschewed a formal editorial policy, stating that We are here to discover something — that is our sole excuse for being here at all. This copy of the April, 1922 issue is covered with Clarks personal notes. Her initials, E.T.C., are in the lower right corner.
