Larissa Smith Fergeson, a history professor at Longwood University in Farmville and the universitys liaison to the Robert Russa Moton Museum, interviews Eunice Ward Carwile, an African American woman whose education was interrupted by the policy known as Massive Resistance. Carwile was a student in Prince Edward County when, in the autumn of 1959, thecounty government closed its public schools rather than desegregate them. The Carwile family moved to another county in order for their five school-age children to attend school, causing financial and emotional hardship.
