Description

A fraise, or a line of sharpened wooden stakes extending horizontally from a hill, protect a recreated redoubt at Yorktown. The British spent the weeks leading up to the October 1781 siege at Yorktown building up temporary fortifications such as these around the city. Alexander Hamilton and the Vicomte de Viomenil took the strategically placed 9th and 10th redoubts on October 14, 1781, the day before Washington's bombardment.
