Description

This is the handwritten transcription of the Ballad Sweet William and Lady Margaret, as collected by Virginia Folklore Society president John Stone in Albemarle County on November 3, 1920. Mr. T. C. Clark of Whitehall shared the ballad with Stone. Before the Virginia Folklore Society acquired a mobile recording device, they relied on handwritten transcriptions such as this, collected by ear, from musically trained ballad collectors.
