Description

John Stuart, the British superintendent of affairs for the southern district, drew this map of the revised Virginia boundary with the Cherokee in 1771. The boundary line agreed upon at the 1768 Treaty of Hard Labor is shown in a vertical dotted line south of the junction of the Kanhawa (Great Conhaway) and the Ohio River. The new boundary, as of negotiations in 1770, is drawn diagonally in red from the Kanhawa river junction to Long Island near the North Carolina border.
