Description

This map, printed as the frontispiece to Clarence Walworth Alvord’s 1917 book, The Mississippi Valley in British Politics, shows the Mississippi and Ohio River Valley land schemes made by English colonial forces like the Ohio Company in the decade leading up to the Seven Years’ War. France claimed much of the same territory claimed by the Ohio company on this map. Alvord used John Mitchell’s 1755 Map of the British and French Dominions in North America as the basemap as it represents the English geographical understanding of the region at the time.
