<p>This portrait shows James McGavock, an Irish immigrant who acquired a large amount of property in the area that would become Fincastle County in the early 1770s. A veteran of the Seven Years War, he signed the Fincastle Resolutions and owned and ran the tavern in Fort Chiswell where the document was likely agreed upon and signed.</p>
