<p>Governor Glenn Youngkin and members of his office pose with members of the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Tribe at the 311th anniversary of [Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood]’s treaty with the Nottoway. The [1714 Treaty] called for the Nottoway to “pay as an acknowledgement of their dependance on the Crown of great Britain the yearly Tribute of three Indian arrows.” The Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) have paid a ceremonial tribute of three arrows to the governor of Virginia every year (excepting 2020) since 2012. The 311th anniversary ceremony was held by the Mantle, a monument to Virginia Indians located at Capitol Square, in Richmond.<p>
