Rear of Second Street

<p>Dilapidated buildings sit amid clutter and refuse in this 1952 photograph of a group of homes between Byrd and Spring Streets in downtown Richmond. The <i>Richmond Times-Dispatch</i> took this picture for an article about potential urban renewal projects, so the photographer intentionally sought out timeworn buildings in the area. It is notable that many photographers took pictures of the rear sides of buildings when illustrating articles about urban renewal.</p>
