This photograph shows the central sculptures of the Alexandria African American Heritage Park, with Carlyle Development apartment buildings in the background. Washington D.C. sculptor Jerome Meadows designed the memorial sculptures, designed to resemble a group of bronze trees. The sculpture is entitled “Truths That Rise from the Roots Remembered.” The nine-acre park was created in 1995 to commemorate historic Black neighborhoods in Alexandria, and it contains a historic Black cemetery.
