Description
This photograph shows the convergence of Interstate 66 and route 29 in Rosslyn, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Urban renewal impacted the Rosslyn area when an influx of mostly white government workers moved to the region in the 1930s and 1940s, leading to a housing shortage that needed to be addressed by the Federal Housing Administration. Many apartment buildings and high rises sprang up in the area, and it transformed from a run-down historic area to a hub for commercial buildings and apartment complexes.
