A contemporary colored, topographical map drawn by Francis Rawdon-Hastings, a British lieutenant, details the area around Great Bridge, in Norfolk, where the Battle of Great Bridge took place on December 9, 1775. The full title of the map is as follows: “A View of the Great bridge near Norfolk in Virginia where the Action happened between a Detachment of the 14th Regt. & a body of the Rebels." The positions of the fort, the location of the troops, the causeway where the battle took place, and the rebel occupied church are indicated by the letters "A" through "D."
