This watercolored etching of a scene from Bacon's rebellion was printed in Benson J. Lossing's 1876 <i>Our Country: A Household History for All Readers</i>. Popular nineteenth-century illustrator Felix Octavius Carr Darley made the etching, and Albert Bobbett colored it. It depicts a highly dramatized scene from Bacon’s rebellion, showing a lovely young Lydia Cheeseman fainting in front of an unfeeling Governor Berkeley, as her husband is condemned to death for treason. The courtroom audience appears shocked as an elderly woman is restrained from attacking her.
