Description
The Lee Lash theatrical curtain company in New York City painted this fire curtain, depicting Crispus Attucks at the Boston Massacre, for the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk. The curtain is three stories high and thirty feet wide. Crispus Attucks, a formerly enslaved man who was the first of five people to die in the Boston Massacre, had been held as a martyr and a symbol by abolitionists and civil rights activists since the 1830s.
