Description
This stock certificate in the sum of one hundred dollars was issued by the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad during the era when former Confederate general William Mahone was president of the company. It was made out to Willis P. Bocock on Dec. 2, 1869, with the promise to be paid out with eight percent interest on July 1, 1880. As the Tennessee and Virginia Railroad Company went bankrupt after the panic of 1873, it is unlikely that Bocock made much profit from his investment.
