Description
The Virginia Civil Rights Memorial was unveiled on July 21, 2008, outside the Capitol in Richmond. It was the first statue featuring any nonwhite person constructed on Capitol Square. Sculptor Stanley Bleifeld designed and created the monument, which depicts 18 key figures who led the protests for school desegregation. L. Francis Griffin appears on the side of the memorial, shown standing next to a school-age girl, looking to him for an education.
