Description
Set in 1950s and 1960s Tehran, "Lustre" is a nonfiction novel about Iran's infamous "rebel poet," Forough Farrokhzad. The project takes up much of the same period of Iranian history as her first book, "The Good Daughter," but focuses on the controversial artistic and literary movements of pre-revolutionary Iran and the contribution of writers like Farrokhzad to social justice movements of that priod. Lustre represents a synthesis of creative writing and scholarly research, enriched by the study of Farrokhzad's poetry, prose, and films. Lustre aims to render a multifaceted portrait of pre-revolutionary Iran and rendering some measure of the historical and cultural upheavals against which Iranian women have made their lives and their art.
