Description
A twentieth-century postcard depicts the music room at Woodlawn plantation, the home of Eleanor Custis Lewis, a stepgranddaughter of George Washington, and her husband, Lawrence Lewis. Set on land that Washington gave them as a wedding present, the house was designed by William Thornton, architect of the U.S. Capitol. The Federal-style brick house was completed in 1805.
