Description
A detail from a large stained-glass window in Saint Helenas Church in Lincolnshire, England, depicts the Virginia Companys coat of arms. The entire window celebrates the life of John Smith, who was born in Lincolnshire and baptized in Saint Helenas. Smith was an early investor in the Virginia Company of London and helped establish the English settlement in Jamestown in 1607. The so-called John Smith window is one of three stained-glass windows given to the church in 1974 by Philip L. Barbour of Kentucky. This photograph of the window was taken on February 13, 2009.
