Description
This flag, sewn by Constance Cary at the outset of the American Civil War (1861-1865), is one of the first versions of the Confederate battle flag. Cary and her cousins Hetty and Jennie Cary each sewed a battle flag in the autumn of 1861 at the request of a Confederate congressional committee. The original is now held at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond.
