Description
Vol. III, No. XL
Synopsis:
In the 1930s, Virginia condemned thousands of acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains to make way for Skyline Drive. Families who had settled there centuries ago were evicted and, in some cases, literally dragged from their homes. U.Va. anthropologists Charles and Nancy Perdue discuss the park's checkered history and the ensuing propaganda wars waged by both sides. Also: interviews with the National Park Service and descendants of the families.
