Description
"New Story Spaces" explores storytelling structures within episodic television, internet groups, the web community, and individual hypertexts in an effort to ascertain how our narratives are evolving as a result of developing communications technologies. These narratives reveal changing manipulations of imaginative spaces and new understandings of audience based on a viable community whose members are distanced but whose common ground is secure. In this respect, these narratives may resemble those of communitites whose stories are primarily oral. In these and other ways, new technologies are likely to affect our narratives, but narrative theory has not yet done enough to consider the electronic medium as a crucial development in contemporary storytelling.
