Description
This original pen-and-ink presentation drawing from 1769 depicts the main house and dependencies of Menokin, a plantation on Cat Point Creek, about five miles upstream from the Rappahannock River in Richmond County. John Tayloe II gave the 1,000-acre plantation and the money to create this stone mansion to his sixteen-year-old daughter, Rebecca Tayloe, and to her husband, Francis Lightfoot Lee, when they married in 1769. John Tayloe lived on the neighboring plantation Mount Airy.
