The full title on the cover of Map of the Battle Field of Fredericksburg (1866) indicates that the details provided in the publications fold-out map and forty-four-page text were taken from official Confederate reports of the event, including one by General Robert E. Lee. Carter Moore Braxton, a civil engineer and businessman who lived in Fredericksburg after the war, prepared and arranged for the books publication; B. L. Blackford, who had served in the Confederate Topographical Engineers Office, drew the map.
