Description
In this oil portrait made in 1841, President John Tyler sits at a desk with a sheaf of official documents. The paper on top of the pile reads, Bank Bill Vetoed. Tyler angered his own Whig party by opposing a national bank and vetoing several party-supported banking bills. The U.S. Capitol can be seen in the distance outside the window. This painting was created by William Hart, and is part of the Commonwealth of Virginias art collection.
