Description
This project explores the role of theater and art in Jewish ghettos and concentration camps between 1939 and 1944. In the face of total oppression, the creation of theater and art was a form of moral resistance to the Nazis and a compelling tale of survival. Dr. Sukovata explores the role of theater and art in ghettos and concentration camps, the variety and functions of theater, the role of humor in theater as a particular form of resistance, the theater as inspiration, solidarity, and healing, and the legacy of Holocaust-era theater on post-war Jewish theater and art.
