Islam: An Exploration
In March, Mountain Empire Community College and the Lonesome Pine Regional library will sponsor a series of three lecture and discussion programs exploring the Islamic religion. Each program will be presented at 12:3O p.m. in the auditorium of Dalton-Cantrell Hall on the MECC campus and will be repeated the same afternoon at 3:00 pm. at the Scott County Public Library at 131 West Jackson Street in Gate City, Virginia. This series is offered to the public free of charge. No preparation for the series is needed; however, supplemental library resources on the Islamic religion are available at the MECC library and at the Scott County Public library.

March 10 (1992)
Dr. Mohammed Sawaie, Director ofithe Middle East Studies Program at the University of Virginia, will lecture on the religious beliefs and history of Islam.
March 17
Ms. Alice Harrington, Assistant Professor of Art at Mountain Empire Community College, will lecture on the cultural legacy of Islam.
March 24
Dr. Samir Saliba, Professor of Political Science at Emory and Henry College, will lecture on Islam’s role
in the world today.
