Description
By this indenture, or legal agreement, an eighteen-year-old free black woman named Alley Anthony, of Norfolk, was apprenticed to Thomas McDorman for three years. During that time McDorman agreed he would instruct her in the trade of seamstressing, provide sufficient food and lodging, and educate her in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
