Ida Mae Thompson, a behind-the-scenes worker at the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia, an organization devoted to the cause of womans suffrage, and later the executive secretary for the Virginia League of Women Voters, is the subject of this photographic portrait. An astute recordkeeper and archivist, Thompson assembled more than 25,000 items concerning the suffrage movement and donated the material to the Library of Virginia (then the Virginia State Library).
