This colored engraving depicts a type of jewelry worn by African women along the Ivory Coast, as well as a manner in which hair was braided early in the nineteenth century. This image is included in Africa: A Description of the Manners and Customs, with Some Historical Particulars of the Moors of the Zahara, and of the Negro Nations Between the Rivers Senegal and Gambia (1821), written and illustrated by Frederic Shoberl, an English journalist.
