Description
This oval miniature portrait depicts two children, believed to be George Washington Washy Parke Custis and his sister Eleanor Nelly Parke Custis. Nelly, on the right, wears a scoop-neck blue dress trimmed with white lace, while Washy wears a blue suit with a white neckerchief. The watercolor on ivory painting, set inside a plain rose gold frame, was created circa 1789, when the two children were living with their grandmother and stepgrandfather, Martha and George Washington. .
