Description
A World War I-era sign produced by the Unites States Food Administration announces that Food will win the war. This sign was to be hung in the windows of restaurants that agreed to observe Meatless days, Wheatless days, [and] Porkless days in accordance with guidelines set out by the federal food agency. The government wanted to conserve protein-rich meat, and wheat that was needed for bread, in order to have ample food supplies for the American troops fighting the war.
