Description
These holes indicate the location of the original late-eighteenth-to-early-nineteenth-century fence posts in the South Yard at James Madisons Orange County plantation, Montpelier. The South Yard was adjacent to the main house and was an area where enslaved members of the plantation lived and worked. The fence line was excavated as part of the restoration of the slave quarters, which began in 2015.
