Lieutenant Colonel Elijah V. White poses in his Confederate uniform in this carte-de-visite photograph probably taken during the Civil War. White, who led the 35th Virginia Cavalry Battalion (popularly known as the Comanche battalion), was raised to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1863.
