Description
A view of the East Lawn at the University of Virginia shows three pavilions (two-storied structures with freestanding columns) connected by a colonnade of single-room student residences. Faculty members reside in the pavilions in close proximity to the students, part of Thomas Jeffersons original architectural concept of creating an Academical Village. Another row of pavilions and student rooms, called the West Lawn, are located across a broad central green. In all, there are ten pavilions.
