Description
A film on the story behind Auguste Rodin's sculpture, "The Burghers of Calais." Directed by Leonora P. Hudson. Auguste Rodin's sculpture, "The Burghers of Calais," forms the basis for a 15 minute film on the nature of personal sacrifice and the values inherent in the individual's relationship to a community or the state. The film and discussion materials to be produced for use with it will focus on the Burghers as a primary historical example of self-sacrifice for the public good. The sculpture itself will be filmed as both artistic creation and symbol, in a unique blend of art and the humanities.
