This statue on Monument Avenue in Richmond memorializes the tennis great and civil rights activist Arthur Ashe. The bronze and granite monument by artist Paul DiPasquale was unveiled on July 10, 1996, on what would have been Ashes fifty-third birthday. He died in 1993.
