Description
This painting of Archibald Cary (1721-1787), the first Speaker of the Senate of Virginia, is a copy of the original eighteenth-century portrait attributed to either Charles Willson Peale or Charles Bridges. The original was destroyed in a fire at the Virginia Executive Mansion in Richmond in 1926, and the artist Anne Fletcher made this copy shortly thereafter. This portrait is part of the Commonwealth of Virginias art collection.
