Description
A photograph from 1993 shows a worker carefully dusting the fragments of a bottle found during excavations of the South Grove trash dump, or midden, on the grounds of Mount Vernon. This midden was in use from the time of the Washington familys arrival in 1735 until the 1820s, and the trash site yielded a rich trove of domestic artifacts that help illuminate daily life on the property.
