SHORT DESCRIPTION: Pearlware mug with applied slip bearing image of slave chained to a rock and a verse from William Cowpers The Negros Complaint. The mug is white in color, except for the applied color that goes around the exterior, which is shades of olive green. The image appears in black and grays on the green background and the lettering is in black with decorative scrolled lines above and below inscription. INSCRIPTIONS: Say then, if your knotted scourges / Matches, blood-extorting screws, / Are the means, that duty urges / Agents of his will to use? [inscribed in black on one side of the mug]
