Description
Spectators, many of them beneath umbrellas, look on as Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes (the bearded man at center) administers the oath of office to President-elect Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the east portico of the U.S. Capitol on January 20, 1937. This was the start of Roosevelts second term as president. He was subsequently elected to another two terms, though he died in April 1945, not long into his fourth term.
