Description
An 1865 broadside issued by Virginia governor William Extra Billy Smith, warns the citizens of Richmond and the state that Union troops are approaching the Confederate capital with a view to its capture, its pillage, and its destruction. The governor ordered every person able to wield a musket to assemble immediately in the public square in order to take up arms in defense of Richmond.
