Description
A February 22, 1865, telegram from Confederate general Robert E. Lee informs General G. T. Beauregard that he has been relieved of his command and replaced by General Joseph E. Johnston. Beauregard is told that he will thereafter serve under Johnston, and, in Lees optimistic words, Together I feel assured you will beat back Sherman. Beneath the message Beauregard has written in pencil, Not without your assistance by concentration.
